OVERVIEW
The Wakerley District Sports Park is a high quality sporting precinct and provides increased sporting and active space facilities for Wakerley and surrounding bay side suburbs. Featuring six hardstand netball courts with lighting, a practice turf area, two new carparks, a connecting shared path from Demby Crescent to Manly Road, beautiful landscape areas, amenities building, a clubhouse and more, the new park is an outstanding sports and recreation facility.
PROJECT SCOPE
Located approximately 12 kilometres from Brisbane’s Central Business District on Manly Road, the projects scope of works consisted of the following:
- Six (6) hardstand netball courts with lighting
- A netball practice area
- Alteration and expansion of the existing carpark and construction of two new carparks to accommodate 135 spaces
- A new 3 metre wider shared pathway connection from Manly Road to Demby Crescent
- Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant ramps and railings
- A 30 metre long deceleration lane along Manly Road
- New stormwater management system consisting of bio-retention basins and swales
- Clearing and planting of several tree’s
- Revegetation, gardens, fencing, furniture and artwork
- Bulk earthworks
- Clubhouse and clubhouse facilities
- Curved and straight off form concrete walls incl. terrace seating.
KEY CHALLENGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
- Implementation and management of long-term, high efficiency sediment basins
- Removal and remediation of unsuitable material
- Project delivery in environmentally sensitive area during wet season
- Meeting tight budget constraints
