Scenic Rim Regional Council’s 2016-17 Budget invested heavily in floodway and culvert reconstruction including a culvert upgrade to Upper Coomera Rd at Lahey Creek, part-funded under the State Government’s Community Resilience Fund.
PROJECT SCOPE
The project consisted of realigning the existing road and bridge construction works. The scope included:
- Clearing and grubbing
- Demolition of the existing culvert
- Insitu concrete culvert base slab, including aprons
- Installation of culvert units and spanning slabs
- Insitu concrete head and wing walls
- Bulk excavation
- Installation of subsoil drains including outlets and check points
- Unbound pavements
- Kerb and channel
- Bitumen seals
KEY CHALLENGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
- De-watering to install box culvert in a running creek.
- Working with narrow road shoulders.
- Working under one lane traffic conditions.
- Management of site and project through flood event.
