Arbor Creek Culvert Crossing Restoration

The Central Highlands Regional Council was able to upgrade the culvert and floodway crossing of Abor Creek as part of
the Queensland Recovery Authority betterment program to improve access to residents during flooding.

OVERVIEW

Owing to heavy damaged during the 2015 flood event, the existing crossing at Abor Creek (located between Capella and Clermont) required replacement. Council engaged Epoca to replace the existing crossing with a new nine (9) cell 1800mm
x 1500mm reinforced concrete box culvert with new reinforced concrete and insitu cement stabilised bitumen sealed pavement approaches and a more robust rock scour protection.

PROJECT SCOPE

Located within the catchment area of Abor Creek on the Magenta Langton Road, between Capella and Clermont, the works were undertaken within a high impact waterway.

The Scope of works included:

  • Post demolition and removal of the existing three (3) cell 1200mm x 450mm box culvert and downstream concrete and rock protection works.
  • Construction of new reinforced in-situ culvert base and apron slabs to receive a new 9 cell 1800 x 1500 RCBC system.
  • Construction of in-situ concrete head walls and a significant volume of varied size flood rock/scour protection.
  • 300m2 @ 37%/50mm thick cement stabilised culvert approaches.
  • Construction of a new concrete wearing course above the new culverts.

  • Liaison/co-ordination with proprietors of surrounding rural properties.
